Big Willow Event in 2007

The Story of the Stones

Closing Event for the Big Willow Project
with Blazin Fiddles and te POOKa

26 th May 2007 Brahan Estate, near Dingwall

Edinburgh based performance arts charity, te POOKa is collaborating with Blazin Fiddles and the Big Willow Event for the finale show on the 26 th May 2007.

Based on the ideas behind the willow sculpture made by Patrick Dougherty in May 2006 the deconstruction show will take a step into the supernatural Highlands : standing stones, prophesy, superstition, folklore and heritage. The show will link the Highlands past and present and celebrate the construction and deconstruction of the Big Willow sculpture.

The audience will be led through the woodland in an enchanting procession of glowing paper lanterns and fantastical creatures.

The magical promenade ends at the waterfront. Here the audience enters a world of Highland myth and magic.

Blazin Fiddles will create the soundtrack for the show, playing reels, jigs and airs from all corners of the Highlands to sketch images in the mind as Scotland 's ancient history and modern folklore are brought to life through music, fire and circus.

The show will culminate with the ritual burning of the sculpture!

During the week prior to the event we will hold several workshops for local school children and basketmakers to decorate the walk to the site.

We will be looking for 4 members who will be able to hold workshops – either one day or half days. These will be paid posts with expenses provided. Please contact me to register your interest and to discuss further.

We will also be looking for volunteers to set up the event, to act as stewards and to tidy up afterwards. The volunteers in 2006 had a wonderful time, exchanging ideas, socialising and meeting old and making new friends!

If you would like to participate you will be provided with meals and accommodation between the 19 th –26 th May and – best of all – one FREE ticket to the event!

You can come for 1 day or all week and if you live locally you can just pop in anytime to help. Most of the help will be needed towards the end of the week.

Stephen Moffat will be acting as local co-ordinator again.
